What better way to celebrate great sunny San Diego weather than going to the SD ArtWalk (April 30 & May 1st), sponsored by Mission Federal Credit Union. This was my second time visiting this event since high school in 2006 and it seems to have gotten bigger than ever! The ArtWalk is held in Little Italy, a center for great food and entertainment in Downtown SD. Admission was totally FREE, parking on the other hand was $10 at the nearby City Administration building and there were also 2hr parking meters along Pacific Hwy / surrounding streets.
The ArtWalk was quite a walk for visitors, spanning over several blocks with adjoining side streets. Vendor booths lined the streets showcasing art of every genre and medium, promoting other arts events / shows, and serving food that would make your mouth water. As with most free events, lots of freebees were offered including promotional bags and food samples. The art on display varied as much as the people who attended. You could find just about anything there, really showing the rich and diverse culture San Diego had to offer. Being a painter, I especially enjoyed the stylistic oil paintings I saw. This event has been running for 27 years so far and hopefully it will continue on as a San Diego staple for promoting the arts. And hopefully I’ll have a booth some time in the future showcasing my own works! 🙂
